Promising WR Suffers Training Camp Injury, Could Land on IR as Head Coach Expresses Regret
Green Bay, WI – August 2025
The Green Bay Packers have been forced to make a difficult decision as rookie wide receiver Sam Brown Jr. has suffered an untimely injury, leading to his release just months after signing with the team in late May.

Head Coach Matt LaFleur expressed his deep regret:
"He’s truly talented. In those practice sessions, we saw flashes of explosiveness and a future where he could help push this team toward a championship run. But the NFL is unforgiving – and this injury took away that chance far too soon."

Per NFL rules, Brown Jr. has been placed on waived/injured status. If unclaimed by another team, he will revert to the Packers’ injured reserve (IR) list, ending his season before it even begins.
"We’ve only been together for a few months, but he left a strong impression," LaFleur added. "I hope another team will give him a shot. If not, we’ll keep him on IR and wait for his return."
Sam Brown Jr. may have lost his rookie season to injury, but in the eyes of the coaching staff, he remains a raw gem – a wide receiver with the potential to be a difference-maker once he’s fully healthy again.
