Packers Adopt 'The More the Merrier' Strategy, Add WR to Already Crowded Receiver Room

Green Bay, WI – May 30, 2025

The Green Bay Packers are embracing a “the more the merrier” strategy, adding yet another wide receiver to an already crowded room, sources told ESPN. The move promises to heighten competition for the 2025 season.

The Packers’ receiver room boasts three returning veterans from 2024: Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Christian Watson (slated for a Week 1 return). Romeo Doubs, another veteran, was traded to the Patriots last week.

Green Bay further bolstered their talent through the draft, selecting Matthew Golden (Round 1) and Savion Williams (Round 3). Both rookies have impressed at OTAs, particularly Golden with his 4.29-second 40-yard speed, per Packers Wire.

Immediately post-draft, the Packers signed Jadon Janke as an undrafted free agent. Now, they’ve added another name: Sam Brown Jr., who joins the 90-man roster for training camp, ESPN reports.

Brown, 24, recorded 509 yards at Miami in 2024, after a 2023 season at Houston with 815 yards and 62 catches. He’ll wear No. 17—Davante Adams’ iconic number with the Packers.

GM Brian Gutekunst’s strategy aims to spark fierce competition in a receiver room where only 5-6 spots may make the final roster. With $22 million in cap space, the Packers are prioritizing affordable depth, per Spotrac.

Fans on X are split: “So many WRs, Love will have options galore!” one tweeted. “But can Brown even make the cut?” another questioned, doubting his chances in a stacked group.

As OTAs progress, Cheeseheads hope this crowded receiver room will elevate the Packers’ offense, providing quarterback Jordan Love with a dynamic arsenal for the 2025 season
