Jaire Alexander Agrees to Pay Cut to Stay with Green Bay Packers

Green Bay, WI – June 8, 2025

According to NFL Network and posts on X, Green Bay Packers’ star cornerback Jaire Alexander has agreed to a significant pay cut to remain with the team for the 2025 season. The move is seen as a strategic decision, allowing the Packers to maintain their formidable defense while freeing up cap space to strengthen the roster.

Alexander, 28, is one of the NFL’s premier cornerbacks, boasting two Pro Bowl selections (2020, 2022) and a First-Team All-Pro nod (2020). However, his four-year, $84 million contract signed in 2022 has strained the Packers’ salary cap, especially as the team looks to secure young stars like Jordan Love and build a Super Bowl-contending roster. Per ESPN, Alexander agreed to restructure his deal, slashing his 2025 base salary from $17.5 million to approximately $12 million, with additional performance-based incentives.

“Jaire is the heart of our defense,” head coach Matt LaFleur said. “This decision shows he puts the team first and is willing to sacrifice for our collective goals.” The move also quells trade rumors that surfaced after the 2024 season, when Alexander was suspended for one game due to conduct detrimental to the team.

In 2024, Alexander recorded 5 interceptions, 12 passes defended, and 52 tackles, helping the Packers boast one of the NFL’s top pass defenses. His ability to lock down elite wide receivers like Justin Jefferson and A.J. Brown has made him indispensable. “I love Green Bay, I love the fans, and I’m not going anywhere,” Alexander posted on X, accompanied by the hashtag #GoPackGo.

Packers fans on X celebrated the news. “Jaire’s a true leader! Taking a pay cut to stay? That’s Packers spirit!” wrote @CheeseheadNation. Another fan, @PackFan4Life, commented, “With Jaire locked in, our defense remains a nightmare for any offense.”

Alexander’s pay cut saves the Packers roughly $5.5 million in 2025 cap space, giving GM Brian Gutekunst flexibility to pursue free agents, such as an edge rusher or offensive lineman to protect Jordan Love. The team is also negotiating extensions with players like Romeo Doubs and Rashan Gary, and this newfound cap room will be crucial.

The deal not only solidifies the Packers’ defense but also sends a powerful message about the team’s culture, where stars prioritize collective success. As the Packers aim for Super Bowl LX, Alexander’s presence will be pivotal in their journey. Stay tuned to ESPN and NFL Network for updates on the Packers and their next moves!

Former Patriots Captain Forced to Join Steelers to Support Ailing Mother, Though His Heart Remains with New England
Former Patriots Captain Forced to Join Steelers to Support Ailing Mother, Though His Heart Remains with New England Foxborough, September 17, 2025 – Just days before the matchup between the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium, the story of Ja’Whaun Bentley – former Patriots captain – has left fans deeply moved. Bentley, who once led the defense and spent 7 seasons in a Patriots jersey, recently signed with the Steelers under reluctant circumstances. His mother is currently battling a serious illness, requiring long-term treatment, and the family needs significant funds to cover medical expenses. The Steelers were the only team to offer a contract at this time, giving Bentley an opportunity to earn income to support his mother. For Bentley, this decision was a heart-wrenching one. After leaving the Patriots due to a pectoral injury in the 2024 season, he has always held deep affection for the team that gave him the chance to become a star. Now, donning a Steelers uniform just before facing the Patriots turns this game into an emotionally charged challenge. In a private conversation with an old friend, Bentley tearfully confided: “I never wanted to stand on the opposite side of the Patriots. New England is where I grew up, my football family. But my mom is in pain every day… and I can’t turn my back on her. I just hope people understand, this isn’t betrayal, but a son’s responsibility.” Many Patriots fans, rather than criticizing, have expressed empathy and sent well-wishes to Bentley and his family. To them, he will always be a part of New England, regardless of the jersey he wears. The Steelers believe Bentley’s presence will add depth to their defense, which has been a weak point through the first two weeks of the season. But for Bentley, this weekend’s game is not just an NFL matchup – it’s a difficult journey between his love for the Patriots and his duty to his family.
