Buffalo Bills claim DT Star off waivers

Buffalo, NY – May 9, 2025 — The Buffalo Bills have made another addition to their defensive front, claiming defensive tackle Casey Rogers off waivers from the New York Giants, the team confirmed Friday evening. With this move, Buffalo now has just one open spot remaining on the offseason roster ahead of mandatory minicamp.

Rogers’ journey to the NFL is anything but conventional. A native of Syracuse, NY, he was a standout lacrosse player at Westhill High School and was initially committed to play lacrosse at Syracuse University. However, Rogers ultimately shifted focus to football, accepting an offer from the University of Nebraska.

While with the Cornhuskers, Rogers appeared in 19 games, recording 41 tackles (15 solo), six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two pass breakups. After three seasons in Lincoln, he entered the transfer portal and continued his collegiate career at the University of Oregon, where he saw action in 27 games, notching 56 tackles (20 solo), seven tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble, and even an interception returned for a touchdown.

Despite going undrafted in 2024, Rogers signed with the Giants as a free agent and was active for two games last season, though he did not register any stats.

At his Pro Day, Rogers impressed scouts with a combination of size and athleticism. Standing 6’4 3/8” and weighing nearly 300 pounds, he clocked a 4.82-second 40-yard dash, a 1.75-second 10-yard split, and a 7.45-second three-cone drill. He also recorded a 35” vertical jump, 9’8” broad jump, and 25 reps on the bench press.

The Bills are hoping Rogers can tap into that athletic upside and add depth to a competitive defensive tackle rotation.

“We’ve claimed DT Casey Rogers off waivers.”
